USAWater Ski’s mission was “to promote the
growth and development of recreational water skiing, and
organizing and governing the sport of competitive water
skiing.” It was the largest water-ski federation in the
world.
The backbone of USAWater Ski was the 630
affiliated active water-ski clubs that existed across the
United States in 2001. It was mainly through these clubs
that USA Water Ski was able to grow its membership base.
Clubs provided volunteers and workers for
any local USAWater Ski programs, put on ski shows, hosted
tournaments, and held clinics for water-ski instruction,
as well as instruction for tournament officials.
In 2001, USA Water Ski sanctioned some 800
tournaments. These tournaments ranged from small, fun competitions
for beginners to World Championship tournaments and cash-prize
professional events.
